The new Glenlivet GTR exclusive unites two barrel types to create a unique Scotch offering notes of orchard fruits, honey, spices, and charred pineapple
The Glenlivet has unveiled a new global travel retail (GTR) exclusive, Glenlivet Caskmakers. The new release from the Chivas Brothers-owned brand sees it combine two casks to create a new whisky that celebrates the combination of flavors.
To create the new release, two hand-selected barrels were deconstructed and recrafted by combining alternating staves of the two. The new casks unite ex-Spanish Sherry and freshy charred European Oak barrels and were developed by Glenlivet’s experts in collaboration with master coopers in Jerez, Spain.
On the nose, notes of ripe pears and honey complement aromas of warm cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg spice. The palate delivers sweet plums and rich dried fruits, which balance flavors of charred pineapple, toasted oak spice, and a hint of bonfire smoke. The finish is sweet, rich, and spicy.
“As we continue to celebrate our 200-year milestone, The Glenlivet Caskmakers embodies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of cask craftmanship in whisky making,” says Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Master. “This exceptional release, born from harnessing a complex new technique, not only honours our rich history but showcases our relentless drive towards innovation and excellence. Integrating this method of cask creation elevates the complexity of the whisky’s flavour profile and represents our dedication to constantly exciting whisky connoisseurs around the globe.”
The Glenlivet Caskmakers will be available exclusively in select Duty-Free stores in airports and travel hubs for $225.
