Speyside whisky distiller The Glenlivet has launched its Eternal Collection with a 55-year-old single malt as part of its 200th anniversary celebration
The Glenlivet has revealed a limited-edition 55-year-old single malt, their oldest whisky to date. The new Scotch is the first release in The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, which celebrates the distillery’s 200th anniversary. Future releases in the series will showcase an original piece of art created by up-and-coming artists alongside a single-cask whisky.
Finished in a seasoned sherry cask and matured over more than five decades, The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, First Edition: 55-Year-Old is a luxurious and rich whisky. On the nose, a medley of autumn fruits, sun-drenched Seville oranges and sticky dates are enveloped by the spiced warmth of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate features the sweet, warming flavors of blackcurrant jam and vanilla fudge, balanced with zesty citrus notes.
Featuring a design by computational architect Michael Hansmeyer, the whisky arrives in a spherical decanter nestled inside a hand-crafted jesmonite and rose-gold plated sculpture. Hansmeyer drew inspiration from the home of The Glenlivet and created the piece via computer modeling.
“My work captures the intersection of architecture and the arts,” says Hansmeyer. “It is a laboratory for experimenting with new possibilities, and that is where I saw harmony in collaborating with The Glenlivet. Weaving threads of intelligent technologies to create something that escapes conformity and classification to celebrate such an aged whisky has been a thrill. I created this sculpture as a tribute to the complexity of The Glenlivet’s oldest expression and the rugged beauty of the distillery’s Scottish landscape, capturing the spirit of where innovation meets tradition.”
Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Master, notes: “Thanks to decades of collaboration from our team of cask experts, past and present, the introduction of The Eternal Collection represents a monumental moment for whisky connoisseurs and luxury appreciators to add a pivotal piece of Scotch whisky legacy to their collection. It epitomizes The Glenlivet’s commitment to excellence within Scotch innovation as we continue to push to creative new heights in single malts.”
Just 100 bottles of The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, First Edition: 55-Year-Old will be made available and are priced at $55,000/ USD per bottle. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
