The Gringo on the Beach from Denver’s Dew Drop Inn mixes tequila and coconut to create the perfect summer cocktail that makes everywhere feel like a day at the beach
If you’re looking for that relaxing feeling that comes with falling asleep on the beach without enough suntan lotion on, look no further than the Gringo on the Beach. Tequila and mezcal meet Campari and coconut to create something akin to a pink, coconut margarita (where Campari replaces Cointreau) that’s a perfect partner for a Cubano.
Dew Drop Inn Bar Manager Hudson Rhotenberry tells us…
Name the cocktail.
This cocktail is called the Gringo on the Beach.
What inspired the name? What’s this drink’s origin story?
It’s a summer drink created for people enjoying the weather on our patio- the name is meant to evoke a relaxing beach vacation where you underestimated the sun and maybe got a little too pink.
What other drinks belong in its family?
I guess I would say it’s in the Margarita/Paloma family- but at its core what it really is is a classic beach drink.
If you like coconut and tequila you should try this drink.
What food is this cocktail best served with?
This drink pairs great with our traditional Cubano sandwich or our slow braised beef brisket street tacos.
