Jefferson’s has unveiled the latest addition to its Ocean: Aged at Sea Collection, Voyage 29 Wheated Bourbon. The new expression is the third wheated bourbon in the series.
The vessel carrying casks of Jefferson’s Ocean Wheated Voyage 29 was first docked in the Port of Savannah, in proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. From there, the ship avoided a tropical storm southeast of Bermuda that gently agitated cargo before heading through the Panama Canal. Next it swung around Australia and up into the Indian ocean enroute to Singapore. Then the ship made several stops in China, Korea, and Japan before heading to the north Pacific Ocean, and crossing to the west coast of the United States.
Jefferson’s Ocean was designed on the belief that consistent agitation means more wood-to-whiskey contact, resulting in more flavor and less bitterness and acidity in the bourbon. Therefore, each expression in the series is different. This time around, the extreme heat caramelized the sugars in the wood while the salty air permeated the barrel while in the open ocean crossing the equator.
Bottled at 45% ABV, Jefferson’s Ocean Voyage 29 Wheated is priced at $79.99. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
Last year, Jefferson’s introduced a new advertising campaign for Jefferson’s Ocean called Aged at the Mercy of the Sea.
