Lakes Distillery Bottles Fourth Whiskymaker’s Reserve Release

Lakes-Whiskymakers-Reserve

The Lakes Distillery has unveiled the fourth release in its Whiskymaker’s Reserve series –  a whisky matured in red wine and Sherry casks.

Launched in September 2019, the limited edition Whiskymaker’s Reserve series showcases the English distillery’s Sherry-led style.

The first bottling in the range, created by whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi, was matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez Sherry and red wine casks. This was followed by a single malt matured in a variety of Sherry casks.

The fourth bottling in the range comprises whisky matured in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, and red wine barrels. The casks selected were made using Spanish, American and French oak.

Speaking on the release, Gandhi said:

“From the American and Spanish oak casks, big notes of manuka honey, sun-dried dates, and roasted cashew nuts lead to layers of dried fruit, nuts and spice, with an indulgent velvet-cream finish.

“One of our most complex yet approachable whiskies in the series to date, this is a well-balanced and contemplative whisky, ideal to enjoy after dinner or with good friends.”

Bottled at 52% ABV at natural colour, the whisky is said to possess ‘the same Sherry-led, wood-forward and flavour-packed characteristics’ of previous releases in the series.

Available from The Lakes Distillery website, the whisky carries an RRP of £65 (US$90) per 700ml bottle.

Last June, The Lakes Distillery launched The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No. 3 Single Malt, which features single malt whisky matured in various Sherry casks. This release was aged in PX, Oloroso, Cream Sherry, and red wine casks.

In July, Lakes Distillery unveiled two new whiskies: The One Orange Wine Cask Finished Whisky and The One Sherry Wine Cask Finished Whisky. The English distillery’s One Collection features a range of fine blended whiskies that showcase the role of cask seasoning in the spirits flavor profile.
