Former Don Julio Master Distiller Enrique de Colsa has partnered with luxury agave brand The Lost Explorer to launch a blanco tequila.
A few years back, David de Rothschild and Thor Björgólfsson launched The Lost Explorer Mezcal with three expressions, an Espadin, a Tobala, and a Salmiana. The bottlings have been impressively successful across the globe, finding their way into high-end shops and bars from Los Angeles to London. Now, the Lost Explorer is making its way into a new agave space, tequila.
To create the handcrafted, small batch blanco tequila, The Lost Explorer partnered with Maestro Tequilero Enrique de Colsa. With over three decades of experience at Don Julio–where he took over as Master Distiller in 2004–Enrique’s choice to take over was one based on values and opportunities, “In The Lost Explorer, I found people with my values and principles, with my way of doing things, and today it’s become a reality…being together to launch a new tequila with new flavors, new aromas, and a completely new level of excellence.”
The Lost Explorer will launch De Colsa’s inaugural line of tequilas as a new expression from The Lost Explorer brand, complementing the company’s reverence for nature and commitment to sustainability in creating additive-free luxury agave spirits.
The Lost Explorer works with local farmers to produce its tequila, ensuring a high caliber of plantings and regenerative harvesting practices are implemented. It is produced in small batches at its distillery in the lowland valleys of Amatitán, Jalisco; the distillery will have the unique distinction of having its own NOM (Norma Oficial Mexicana).
“We are thrilled to unveil our tequila, a natural evolution of our agave spirits brand which seeks to inspire people to celebrate the earth and live curiously,” said Tanya Clarke, CEO at The Lost Explorer. “With Enrique at the helm, and the Valley of Tequila as our canvas, each bottle tells a story of craftsmanship, terroir and a dedication to producing a superb tequila made within the rhythm of nature.”
The Lost Explorer Tequila launch will lead with the unveiling of de Colsa’s first signature Blanco tequila, which will be available in the US, Mexico, UK, Europe, and beyond from April onwards.
The Lost Explorer Mezcal is launching into three new global markets: Spain, South Africa, and Indonesia. With this expansion, the luxury artisanal mezcal will now be available in over 21 countries. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
Last year, East London agaveria Hacha partnered with The Lost Explorer mezcal for a bar takeover at Iceland’s Kokteil Barinn.
