Macallan Adds 73 Year Old To Red Collection

Macallan Red Collection 73 Years Old

The Macallan Red Collection 73 Years Old offers a mix of sweet and complex notes that can be found throughout the brand’s rarest whiskies

The Macallan has added a 73 Year Old to its Red Collection. The Macallan Red Collection is made up of eight rare single malt whiskies, shaped by the actions of founder Alexander Reid and key characters in The Macallan’s history.

Created from some of The Macallan’s oldest and rarest casks, the distinctive red color is inspired by the significance of red throughout the brand’s history, such as The Macallan’s ‘Choice Old’ range, a beloved whisky released over a century ago in 1903. Distilled decades ago, each expression in this Collection has been matured in sherry seasoned oak casks.

On the nose, the Scotch offers a medley of antique oak, apricot jam, fine liquorice, and treacle tart, alongside soft baked apple, nutmeg, and tropical notes. The palate begins with flavors of dates, woodsmoke, bittersweet treacle toffee, and a hint of aromatic leafiness. There’s a fruitiness and salinity reminiscent of a fine Palo Cortado, followed by soft tannins, subtle spice, treacle and a continued minerality that elongates the finish.

To celebrate the launch of The Macallan 73 Years Old, a new animated film and series of illustrations have been created in collaboration with Spanish painter and artist, Javi Aznarez. Aznarez depicts the timeless craftsmanship, knowledge, and skills passed down through generations of The Macallan’s Whisky Makers.

Bottled at 44.9% ABV, more information about The Macallan 73 Year Old can be found via the brand’s official website.

In April, Macallan unveiled the 2024 Release of its famed Double Cask 18 Year Old. Each annual addition of the Speyside brand’s famed double cask differs from the last, making the bottlings unique in comparison to other 18-year-old single malts that are regularly available.
