The second edition in the Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged collection combines 12 and 13 year old bourbon whiskeys that have matured in the brand’s limestone cellar
Quintessential Kentucky bourbon Maker’s Mark has just announced the launch of its Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged 2024. Following their success with the 2023 release, the 2024 edition is matured for 12 and 13 years in a cool cellar surrounded by limestone, then blended to create a distinct palette.
A blend of 15% Maker’s Mark 12-year-old and 85% Maker’s Mark 13-year-old, Dr. Blake Layfield, Head of Innovation and Blending at Maker’s Mark, believes the limestone shelf surrounding the cellar is what imparts such a complexity in the whiskey: “Delivering an elevated expression that’s distinctly Maker’s Mark, Cellar Aged finishes maturation in our LEED-certified cellar, built into the limestone shelf that surrounds us, creating a richer, deeper and more complex bourbon, free from the harsher tannic effects commonly found in older American whiskies.”
The whiskey delivers aromas of zesty citrus, toasted almonds, and caramelized sugar, complementing a palate of bright spices, rich coconut, and buttery shortbread until it settles towards a finish of subtle oak and dark fruits.
Rob Samuels, grandson to Bill Samuels Sr. and Managing Director of Maker’s Mark, stated, “we surprised the world with the debut of Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged last year, a bold step in our family’s legacy because, for more than 65 years, aging our whisky for a decade-plus wasn’t something we did… Staying true to our founders’ flavor vision and our relentless pursuit of excellence, we’re thrilled to introduce our most mature bourbon yet.”
Bottled at 59.7% ABV, Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged 2024 features a suggested retail price of $174.99 in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and other Global Travel Retail accounts. It will be available in Korea, Japan and Singapore in 2025. The expression is also available for purchase at the distillery by booking the Cellar Aged Experience via the brand’s official website.
