The Only in NY is a modern take on the classic Algonquin cocktail, featuring bourbon, pineapple juice, and dry vermouth alongside those last gasps of summer indulgence
While whiskey season is fast approaching, no one is quite ready to give up on that summer fun. That’s what makes The Only in NY cocktail from Hudson Whiskey perfect for these last warm days. It takes a classic cocktail born in midtown Manhattan and dresses it up with a Hawaiian t-shirt. As Nicholas Rose, Assistant Visitor Experiential Manager at Tuthilltown Distillery, explains…
Name the cocktail.
Only in NY
What inspired the name? What’s this drink’s origin story?
This cocktail is a take on the Algonquin, a post-Prohibition era recipe named for the famed Algonquin hotel in midtown Manhattan. Updating a somewhat divisive recipe from the 1930s, Only in NY refers to the balancing act of constant evolution while remaining true to your roots. Here, we’ve brightened up a formerly dry classic into a cocktail that feels as at home in the hallowed halls of a private club as it does watching the sunset at your favorite rooftop bar.
What other drinks belong in its family?
Only in NY occupies the space between Tiki, Disco, and classic cocktails, for when you can’t decide between a Manhattan or a Mai Tai.
If you like floral shirts as formal wear and submitting to the New Yorker caption contest you should try this drink.
What food is this cocktail best served with?
Despite the sweetness of the pineapple, this cocktail pairs perfectly with appetizers and entrees. This recipe provides a refreshing respite against a dry and funky cheese plate, and perfectly complements a thick, savory pork chop.
