Serving up classic New Orleans cocktails just steps from Bourbon Street, Peychaud’s delivers relaxed elegance in the eye of the storm.
Once the home of Antoine Amédée Peychaud–yes, the man behind the bitters–and situated just steps from Bourbon Street at The Celestine hotel, Peychaud’s serves up New Orleans classics inside its small interior bar and cozy courtyard. Most visitors, which range from hotel guests to cocktail aficionados, come for the Sazerac, but the French 75 and namesake Fizz are equally good options.
Neal Bodenheimer from Cure Co. the team behind other Big Easy must-visits like Cure and Cane & Table, brought Peychaud’s to life. Inside, there are only six tables and 10 bar seats, making the courtyard and its flowing fountain the place to be on warm evenings. While the New Orleans and French classic cocktails are certainly the go-to here, imbibers are also free to order up simpler options like beers to go.
Head Bartender Katie Firestone tells us…
Please describe Peychaud’s as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.
Peychaud’s is a respite from the hustle and bustle of busy Bourbon street. It feels miles away while being just around the corner from all the action. When you join us for drinks, you sit down inside or in our cozy courtyard, relax, and allow us to curate a delightful and refined cocktail experience for you.
How would you describe Peychaud’s in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?
Peychaud’s is: Elegant. Relaxed. Warm.
Other than Peychaud’s, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?
Peychaud’s is just steps away from fine art galleries, museums, exquisite restaurants, bars of all styles, and shops galore. The French Quarter is a wonderful place to get lost, found, and have fun.
Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?
Peychaud’s tend to have a lull during dinner service, between 7-9pm. We are busiest upon opening, and usually have another good pop after dinner.
Describe the average drinkers that you serve?
Peychaud’s guests range from cocktail aficionados to guests just wandering in. We love having the ability to serve anything from high-end reserve drinks to a Coors Light to-go. Our menu drinks are the bulk of our sales, but we love doing dealer’s choice for someone looking for a unique drinking experience.
Please tell us more about your drinks menu.
Peychaud’s is focused on New Orleans classics. We have a few originals that are designed to be enjoyed in a courtyard setting. All our drinks are exquisite, fine-tuned models of the drinks that set New Orleans place in cocktail history.
What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?
Our Sazerac is, hands down, what we are known for. My favorite drink is our French 75. I think it’s the best in the city. It’s made with a gin that is a brandy base, infused with juniper (and a myriad of other botanicals), then aged in cognac barrels. It answers the age old question, “What’s better in a French 75, gin or brandy?” And the answer for us is, “Both!.”
How much do drinks cost?
Peychaud’s cocktails start at $11, but you can spend much more when selecting from our reserve and specialty spirits.
Is there anything to eat? If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?
Peychaud’s has a unique partnership with our sister bar, The Will & The Way. We have a QR code on the back of our menu. You can scan it, order food from them, and they will hand deliver it to you at Peychaud’s. It’s been a lovely cooperations between us that our guests really enjoy.
What are the distinguishing features of Peychaud’s?
Peychaud’s is a small, quaint, and special space. We only have 10 bar seats, and 6 tables inside. Our courtyard is such an important feature of our space, and the flowing fountain adds calmness to the serene ambiance.
What’s that music we hear playing on the Peychaud’s stereo?
Peychaud’s loves to play fun music that brings a fun atmosphere without being overly stimulating (we leave that to Bourbon Street). Depending on the day, you can come in and hear everything from Harry Belafonte to Fleetwood Mac to Allen Toussaint.
