Seaworthy

Seaworthy Ace Hotel New Orleans

Oysters and cocktails combine at Seaworthy at New Orleans’ Ace Hotel to create one of the city’s best hotel bars.

Inside a Creole cottage at New Orleans’ Ace Hotel, Seaworthy serves up fresh oysters alongside carefully crafted cocktails. Bivalves from Alaska to Massachusetts to Louisiana are available as are fire breathing drinks like the Holy Water. Come here after the dinner rush to experience the building, built back in 1832, in all its glory minus the crowds.

The team at Seaworthy tells us…

Please describe Seaworthy as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.

Seaworthy’s home is a classic Creole cottage built in 1832 – one of the last of its kind in New Orleans’ Central Business District. After you check in at the host stand, you’re ushered into our ground floor bar and lounge. The bar itself pulls double duty as the spot where you order drinks, and you can watch our shuckers opening the best oysters from all three North American coasts: East, West and Gulf, which is our backyard.

How would you describe Seaworthy in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?

Other than Seaworthy, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?

Our neighborhood has so much happening. There’s great shopping and dining in the area. First and most importantly, we’re located at Ace Hotel New Orleans, which is a lively hub for travelers and locals alike. Ace has a vibrant lobby; a music venue called Three Keys; a rooftop pool, bar and grill called Alto; the coffee shop / cafe, Lovage; our sister restaurant, Josephine Estelle; and there’s even an art gallery featuring the work of some of New Orleans’ top talents. Just up the street is Bar Marilou, one of the best cocktail bars in the city. Lafayette Square is around the corner where concerts and festivals are hosted. Seaworthy Is also just a short walk to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.

Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?

Late night after the dinner rush, 10PM is the best time.

Describe the average drinkers that you serve?

Fortunately, we have a very broad audience: out-of-towners, lots of locals, date nighters, celebration makers and so on.

Please tell us more about your drinks menu.

We really pride ourselves on our drinks offering. We do our best to accommodate all comers. The menu’s divided into our Signature Cocktails, Classics, Beers, Wines by the Glass and Zero-Proof Refreshers. Everything is about craft and being housemade. We squeeze fresh juice and make all our mixers and syrups.

What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?

Since day one, the drink at Seaworthy is the Holy Water. It’s made with a spiced rum blend, cognac, chartreuse, lemon, lime and grapefruit. It’s served tall in our custom-made votive candle glasses and topped with a flaming lime. It’s delicious and also looks great on camera.

How much do drinks cost?

$12 – $18

Is there anything to eat? If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?

We have a full menu of awesome dishes to eat. Our oyster selection is the best and most diverse in the city. We have direct relationships with top-flight sustainable oyster farmers ranging from Alaska to Massachusetts to right here in Louisiana. We also are one of the few places in New Orleans to serve a variety of caviar.

Our small plates include Frog Legs and Charbroiled Oysters, and our mains include our always popular Seaworthy Roll with lobster, Shrimp and Grits, Fish and Chips and we always have a fresh fish selection. For the non-seafood guests, our burger with fontina, bacon and roasted tomato jam is considered one of the best around.

What are the distinguishing features of Seaworthy?

We really love our cottage space, and make good use of it. We have the oyster / cocktail bar downstairs, a full dining room on the second floor, a 30-seat private dining room on the top third floor and an outdoor patio. Guests really enjoy the history and intimacy of our spaces.

What’s that music we hear playing on the Seaworthy stereo?

We love music here in New Orleans, and we make sure our playlists set the right mood every night. We tend to lean into R&B, soul and hip-hop.
