Starward has unveiled its latest limited-edtiion whisky, Starward Muscat. The new offering features notes of toasted almond, cinnamon, and lychee.
This single malt whisky was fully matured for 4 years in Muscat barrels from Rutherglen Victoria. The Australian whisky absorbed all those Muscat flavors, resulting in a unique expression that’s aromatic and bursts with flavour. Starward is no stranger to experimenting with fortified wine barrels. Their very first whisky, Solera, is fully matured in Apera barrels.
In anticipation of the launch, Starward Production Director, Sam Slaney said: “This is the first time the team has experimented with Muscat barrels. We’ve been very fortunate tovsource some of the best barrels from Rutherglen Victoria, a region famous for producing some of the finest fortified wine. This latest Projects release is a nod to the iconic Muscat grape, with the whisky taking on those aromatic sweet flavours, perfectly balanced with the spicy characters from the oak.”
A warm auburn in color, the whisky offers aromas of toasted almond, raisin, and lychee. The palate delivers hot sticky cinnamon buns, raisins, and cinnamon. The finish finds more toasted oak and liquorice.
Starward Muscat will be priced at $169 per bottle and available exclusively via ballot via the brand’s official website. The only way to get your hands on a bottle is to enter the ballot for a chance to purchase with the ballot drawn from 16 August.
In May, Starward unveiled a limited-edition Stout Cask finished whisky. The single malt honors the crafts of brewing and distilling, and delivers a flavor profile unlike anything the brand has created before.
