With just 140 bottles and priced at over $16,000, the Teeling 40-Year-Old Single Malt is one of oldest and rarest releases in Irish whiskey history
Teeling has a lot of different whiskey collections, there’s the Explorers Series, the Wonders of Wood range, the Distillery Exclusive, but of all its assemblages, the Vintage Reserve Collection carries the oldest and rarest offerings. Now, the Dublin-based whiskey makers have unveiled the latest and most-limited bottle in that chain, the Teeling 40-Year-Old Single Malt.
In what the brand is calling its new “Modern Classic,” the Teeling 40-Year-Old Single Malt is one of the oldest and rarest Irish Single Malts every releases. Distilled back in 1983, the whiskey matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon barrels.
On the nose, the whiskey offers aromas of light berry fruit compote with hints of blueberry, and strawberry as well as honey, spearmint, orange zest and light spices. The palate features notes of coconut, milk chocolate, peach sorbet, honeydew melon, and tangerine. The long, luxurious finish delivers subtle spice, soft oak tannins, and honeyed sweetness.
“We are extremely proud and lucky to be custodians of some of the oldest Irish Single Malt, which we have been mindfully releasing through our Vintage Reserve Collection,” says Jack Teeling, founder of the Teeling Whiskey Company. “We are honoured to unveil the pinnacle of our this collection with our new “Modern Classic” the Teeling 40-Year-Old Single Malt, one of the oldest Irish Single Malts ever bottled and a rare piece of Irish whiskey history – 40 years in the making.”

As part of our launch, the brand has announced the creation of the Teeling Phoenix Rising Scholarship in conjunction with Technological University Dublin. The brand will use part of proceeds from the 40-Year-Old Single Malt to give back to future generations with the scholarship programme, funding students in Brewing & Distilling as well as Hospitality and Tourism.
Bottled in a hand-decorated glass decanter, the four decade old whiskey arrives in a handcrafted gift box with a weighted cork. Each bottle is individually numbered and comes with its own certificate of authenticity and invitation to come to the Teeling Whiskey Distillery for a special tasting.
