FiDi Gets A Rum, Tequila, and Mezcal Bar, The Bedford

The Bedford Stone Street FiDi

Williamsburg’s The Bedford passengers a nautical theme to NYC’s Financial District along with a mix of rum and agave cocktails as well as seafood and pub grub

The Financial District has a new space for after-work drinks, The Bedford. Sibling to the Williamsburg establishment of the same name, the FiDi location finds its inspiration in retro ocean liners and Mexican spirits, offering a cocktail menu stacked with tequila, mezcal, sotol, and rum.

Located at Stone Street and William Street in New York, The Bedford’s focus on Mexican spirits is guided by bartender and beverage manager José María Dondé, who has assembled a collection of tequila, mezcal, sotol, rums, cachaça, and other liquors from South and Central America. Cocktails include a mole corn painkiller (mole fat-washed Paranubes rum, Posh Altar, Mexican atole, and totmoxtle) and the La Isla Bonita (with San Cosme mezcal) as well as green Chartreuse and red Campari margaritas. Dondé previously worked at Williamsburg’s Maison Premiere, Claro in Gowanus, and Cosme in Manhattan.

There is also a wine collection that selection bottles from Napa, France, Italy, Spain, and Georgia that range from $60 to $295 per bottle with over 10 by-the-glass options also available. Beers from the U.S., Belgium, Germany, and Mexico are also available.

The seafood-leaning food menu features oysters, beer-battered blue crab beignets, crab and tomato water bucatini, and sea bass à la plancha. There is also a burger served with Old Bay fries.

The bar-restaurant itself comes from a combination of Atomic Hospitality Group (Roebling Sporting Club, Macchina Pizza, and Mexi) and Paul Lamas of Harry’s and the Dead Rabbit fame.

Previously Underdog, the new partners took over the location in December of last year, before having to jump through the usual hoops expected when renovating a historic building. The space fits 75 indoors with an additional 30 customers able to enjoy outdoor seating. With a wood-planked ceiling, the space is made to feel like a classic ocean liner and also features tall-ship artwork, rattan seating, and tropical ceiling fans.

The Bedford at 55 Stone Street is open Sunday through Wednesday from 4pm to midnight and Thursday through Saturday, 4pm to 1am.FiDi Gets A Rum, Tequila, and Mezcal Bar, The Bedford. For more information, head over to the official website.
