If you’ve lived in Silver Lake for long enough, you’ve probably been invited to a birthday party that started at The Friend and ended up at Zebulon. Filled with disco balls and pinball machines, this is a perfect spot to start or end a big weekend night. Light Mexican-leaning bites, Peroni on draft, natural wines by the glass, and a variety of cocktails add to the space’s bright vibes, which somehow blends classic diner with French cafe.

What’s the crowd like?
Inviting. A local-leaning crowd that seems to include everyone whomever lived or might live in Silver Lake or Los Feliz, The Friend is delightfully unpretentious and varies between those looking for intimate romance and groups out for a big night.
What am I drinking?
Is there something more Silver Lake than a PBR tallboy and a shot of bourbon? Probably not, so we say go for it. Or opt for one of their cocktails that–like the space–lean to the lighter and more wild side of the drinking spectrum.
Is there anything to eat?
Yes. While the menu has been scaled back a bit, there are still a variety of light bites that are great accompaniments to too many cocktails.
When should I get here?
The Friend still draws a big crowd come late night, so we suggest getting here before 830 when you can still snag a seat and then sticking it out until you’re ready for the next destination or your legs are tired from too much time on the dance floor.
Why am I here?
To get in the mood. Whether you’re out for a romantic night for two or getting ready to crawl across the neighborhood’s various bars, The Friend is the best answer to “where should we start the night.”
