A new rum bar has opened inside Petit Azca restaurant in the Tetuán neighborhood of Madrid, Spain, Ti’ Punch
Madrid has a new rum bar, Ti’ Punch. The bar is located in the Spanish capital’s Tetuán neighborhood and is located inside Petit Azca restaurant.
Created by a duo of rum specialists, bartender and spirits education specialist at the Madrid Chamber of Commerce School Carlos Carballo as well as Federico J Hernández, founder of The Rum Lab, the bar is named after the iconic Caribbean cocktail of the same name, which is a shortening of the French term “petit punch.”
The drink’s history is much debated with some arguing it was created to celebrate the abolition of slavery in France on April 27, 1848. While others first found mention of it in Lafcadio Hearn’s 1890 book, Two Years in the West Indies.
With the goal of creating “high-quality cocktails at affordable prices,” the bar focuses its cocktail menu on five Ti’ Punch variations, four different Daiquiris, and a variety of other rum cocktails, including a Kingston Negroni (Spanish vermouth, Amaro bitters and Worthy Park Jamaican rum Estate Select) and an the modern classic Old Cuban (Bacardi 4 Years, mint, lime, sugar, cava and bitters). No rum-based cocktails will also be available.
Along with with the cocktails, the bar will offer a variety of sipping rums from places across the globe, including Puerto Rico, Barbados, Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Martinica, Guadalupe, Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Canary Islands, Brazil, Jamaica, Republica, Dominicana, Haiti, Nicaragua, Panama, Ecuador, Cambodia, Cuba, and Guyana.
For those looking to expand their knowledge and palates, the bar also offers a variety of Rum Tasting Experience, where visitors can try expressions made in Spain, South America, Asia Pacific, Central America, and in the English influence style, as well as others.
The bar is located at Av. del Pdte. Carmona, 1, Tetuán, 28020 Madrid. For more information, head over to the bar’s official website.
