The man behind London’s A Bar with Shapes for a Name has opened a new outpost in outpost in Bordeaux, France
Remy Savage has opened Un Bar avec des Formes pour Nom (A Bar with Shapes for a Name in English) in Bordeaux, France. The bar man stormed onto the scene in 2021 when he co-founded the London-based bar with the same name, followed by Bar Nouveau in Paris.
Savage opened Un Bar avec des Formes pour Nom with business partner Paul Lougrat. Like his other bars, this new Western French outpost is based on an art movement, in this case Bauhaus. “The bar is a lot like its london elderly sister but it’s inherently bordelais from the material to the guests, the products to the artisans,” says Savage about the new space.
When Savage and Lougrat opened A Bar with Shapes for a Name in London, it was based on the principle of creating different bar projects based on different art movements. He followed this with Bar Nouveau, based on Art Nouveau.
Located across the street from a prominent Bauhaus-style fire station building on 17 Quai des Salinières – named La caserne de la Benauge, designed by Claude Ferret in 1954 to implement functionalism into the city’s fire department, Savage felt he had no choice but to once again focus on Bauhaus within his latest space.
The menu is identical to the London bar and includes cocktails made from only 20 bottles of blind-tasted spirits. Drinks include a mix of classics and house creations, including the kazimir (a fat-washed drink inspired by Russian artist Kazimir Malevich with vodka, absinthe and peach yogurt).
Savage hopes to open two bars in the not so distant future, one in Lyon (abstract) and the other in Milan (futurism). For more information, head over to the official Instagram account.
