Ryan Cecil and Kenny Coleman, two of the voices behind the Bourbon Pursuit podcast, have unveiled Pursuit United Whiskey. The duo founded Pursuit Spirits in 2018 and have been releasing single barrel expressions under the label ever since. Now, they’ve rolled out with their flashship Bourbon.
Pursuit United Bourbon is a blend of mash bills from three different distilleries in three different states (Kentucky, New York, and Tennessee) with Bourbon barrels ranging from 4 to 5 years old. Bottled at 108 proof (54% Alc./Vol.) and non-chill filtered to maintain more barrel character, the small-batch blend of straight Bourbon Whiskeys is “tailored to the growing number of whiskey drinkers that want to experience more flavor and less water,” says the brand.
The Kentucky component is in partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Company using a bourbon mash bill that delivers prominent notes of caramel and maple. The partnership with Finger Lakes Distilling in New York utilizes its award-winning wheated mash bill to provide more vibrant fruit notes. The final component supplies deep and rich character with sweet oak influence coming from an undisclosed distillery in Tennessee that is not located in Tullahoma.
“Sourcing whiskey is not easy because it’s impossible to know what will be available in the future,” said Kenny Coleman, Co-Founder of Pursuit Spirits. “Establishing a partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Company and Finger Lakes Distilling gives us confidence that we can continue to grow Pursuit United, maintain a consistent profile, and make it a staple product on every shelf.”
“Pursuit United continues our effort to appeal to the growing whiskey market,” said Ryan Cecil, Co-Founder of Pursuit Spirits. “Each barrel in the blend was hand selected for what it could bring to the final product.”
On the nose, Pursuit United offers aromas of caramelized sugar, honeycomb, sweet corn, mulling spices, and natural cocoa. The palate begins with an Initial wave of brown sugar and honey, which transitions into a malted chocolate ball and citrus tea. It finishes with a gradual progression of spicy orange marmalade.
Bottled at 54% ABV, just 2,250 bottles of the small batch Bourbon Whiskey have been released at the time, with another 8,000-plus bottles set to come in March. Pursuit United available in Texas, Georgia, Kentucky or Tennessee, or online at Seelbach’s, where it’s priced at $65.
