Named after the famed Alfonso Cuarón movie starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, the Y Tu Mama Tambien cocktail from Los Angeles’s iconic The Dresden mixes mezcal with tequila to create an elevated margarita that also sparkles thanks to the slight effervescence from the LoFi Gentian Spritz.

What inspired the name? What’s this drink’s origin story?
The movie is a favorite of the bar staff and flows well for the type of cocktail it is.
I wanted to create a bright split based (or close to) Mezcal & Tequila cocktail for patrons who are fans of both spirits. After trying LoFi’s gentian spritz I knew it’d do great with agave spirits.
What other drinks belong in its family?
It’s a fairly unique cocktail featuring mezcal and tequila together. I’d say it’s an elevated margarita of sorts that holds more personality. The slight effervescence from the LoFi Gentian Spritz’s adds a nice crisp touch while the grapefruit, hibiscus, and spiced ginger pair very well with the agave-based spirits.

Mezcal and tequila…….and a hint of bright spiciness

Ingredients
- 1oz Teremana Blanco
- 3/4oz Ilegal Joven Mezcal
- 3/4oz stirring’s ginger liqueuer
- 1/2oz lime juice
- 1/4oz agave syrup
- 3 dash fire water
- 2oz LoFi Gentian Spritz (if unavailable, 3/4oz LoFI Gentian Amaro, 1/4oz pamplemousse liqueur, 4 dash hibiscus water, 1 oz prosecco)
Directions
Measure and add tequila, mezcal, ginger liqueur, lime, agave, and fire water to cocktail shaker and shake accordingly. Pour LoFi Spritz to a snifter glass, add ice to top, then slowly pour remaining cocktail over contents in glass, so you have a nice colored layer / float (almost like a sunset). Garnish with candied ginger and dehydrated lime wheel.
